moving to digital

Ok… so I’ve been an avid photographer for a while now and I’m looking to make the transition to digital. While I love my Nikon F80 and I won’t stop using a film based system, I’d like to some how get my photos online so that I can start a proper portfolio/gallery (and a photoblog). Right now I have to look for the on campus flatbed scanner to post photos, not the easiest to do, especially since it likes to disappear on me. So my two options are:

  • Get a film scanner.

That way I can still world with slide film, which is a really good medium. I’ve been looking at the Epson Perfection 4870 PHOTO and the Nikon Coolscan V ED.

  • Get a digital SLR.
There are times I wish I had the instantaneous results that you can get with a digital camera, mainly for when I’m trying somethine new, that way I can make sure I get it right and won’t have to wait for film to get developed. While I don’t want to have to switch camps (from Nikon to Canon), I’ve been looking at the Nikon D70. A camera that’s gotten a lot of good reviews and awards.

Ideally, I’d like to get both. But that may take a while to acomplish. Personally, I think that if I had those (plus a proper flash, camera bag and couple more lenses) then my photgraphy equipment collection might be close to being at a place where I’d be truly content.
