frustrating ads

ok, so I’m really frustrated with some of the misleading ads on TV. It’s gone beyond the stage of showing cugary cereal with a glass of OJ and saying it’s “part of a balanced breakfast” when everything else is healthy except the cereal.

They’ve been showing a Weetabix ad on TV and saying that students who eat it in the morning are “30% more aware then people who don’t eat breakfast.” They might as well say eating something is better than nothing! They’re just confirming the old saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Another ad that frustrates me is one that was on TV when I left Canada. It was an anti-driving-while-high ad at it said that X% of people in car accidents that were tested for weed, tested positive. They at no point said that it was the cause of the accident, they just implied it with the graphic images. Of course they can make those type of claims b/c it can stay in your blood stream for weeks!

Misleading ads really frustrate me. They’re not painting the proper picture by leaving out all the facts. How do they expert consumers to make the informed decisions? I know that they want to persuade people onto their side of the arguement, but it just eerks me to no avail. Can you tell I’m a marketing major?
