back in Syd for the home stretch

Well I’m back in Sydney for my last few weeks. Melbourne was an absolute blast. It wasmy first hat tourny and I gotta say that i was a little curious to how the team of strangers would gel but it worked out. My team, we called ourselves The Opposition, ended up doing pretty well. We made the round of 8 before being knocked out, which is pretty good considering there were 18 teams in the tourny. We lost to the eventual champs and gave them their toughest game along the way. We lost 11-7 and we were the team to score the most against them and the team to lose by the smallest margin. So that’s something I can be proud of. Another highlight was the fact that I got to play in the all-star/demo game and the end of the first day. The guy who was selected from my team didn’t want to plat b/c he’d played in numerous ones before so the team chose me to play, just so you know, the top male and female players from each team played in the demo game. It was a lot of fun playing against such elite players, many of them had represented Australia (or other countries) in the recent world championships. I managed to score a couple against them, so I was happy.

On a side note, Melbourne is a really nice city! Now I can see why it so many people prefer it over Sydney. I didn’t get to see a lot of it, but what I did have a full day to check out the CBD area and I was impressed. I think that I would prefer it to Sydney if I got to check it out more, but that’s only based on first impressions.

Now that I’m back in Sydney, it’s time to start looking for a job for when I return to Toronto in Feb 2005 and start closing down my life in Sydney, ie packing up. It’s weird to think that I’ve been down here for so long!
