Well here I am in Cairns and I guess the first immediate difference between here and Tasmania is that you can eat the air. I’ve gone from a place with some of the cleanest and crispest air in the world (proven fact) to an area that where the air is so thick with humidity that you need a knife and fork to breath. While I’ve only been in Cairns for abotu 16hours or so the first thing that you notice is that beyond tourism, this place has nothing to offer. The streets are lined with internet cafes/hotels/hostels/bars/travel agents. So this place is pretty much a transition point to the reef and the rain forest. There aren’t even any beaches around, but there is a man made lagoon that I’m about to go for a swim in.
Oh, the other thing that I noticed last night, is the number of people here that have sunburns. A lot of people are as red as lobsters! Dont’ worry mom, I’ve got my sunscreen on.
Tomorrow I’m off to for two days in the rain forest followed by a day on of snorkelling on the reef. After which I start heading south. hopefully the air gets less thick on my way down.
Anyways, haven’t got a lot to say since I last posted. I didn’t get much sleep last night b/c my body is used to getting up at 7am (which is 6am in Cairns) and I had a MASSIVE snorer in my room last night. So I left my room around 6:30 and have been walking around for the last 5 hours. Anyways, I’m off to got work on my burn/tan.
