Rock Star: sevennine

Ok… so I managed to catch the second episode of Rock Star: INXS. I gotta say is that I was impressed, it’s could almost be called Rocker Idol. But this time it’s not just about the singer… truth be told, most rockers aren’t good conventional singers, they just happen to find a style of music that suits their abilities. It’s also good to hear people compete in a singing competition without singing pop music. Those who know me know that I have much more respect for people that right their own music. I think there’s more skill in being able to write and perform the song… not just the latter. Some people might actually be surprised to hear who actually wrote some of the songs their favourite artists sung. A small example from the rap world… one of 50 Cent’s biggest hit, In Da Club, was actually proposed to D12 first before it was given to 50.

Back to INXS and their search for a new lead singer… here’s the question, should they really be looking for a new lead singer under the INXS banner? I think that it would better for them to just form a new band, Michael Hutchence can’t be replaced.

Also, INXS is one of Australia’s biggest exports and out of the 15 people vying there are ten Americans, four Canadians (GO CANADA!) and ONE, token, Australian, who just happens to be living in London now. INXS is Australian and the show is trying to get ratings by having a majority of North Americans in the competition. Personally, I don’t think it’s to the true spirit of INXS.

Some closing comments about the rockers competing… too many guys in tight jeans, guys are not meant to wear hip-huggers. Also, female rockers are HOT!! I find them strangely attractive…

Having only seen a few of the performers… my early favourites are: Ty and Jordis.
